Assignment 9- Testing the Hypothesis Part 2

Assignment 9- Testing the Hypothesis Part 2

· WHO: From conducting my interviews I found a few groups of students that although they are undergraduate students here at UF fall outside of the boundary of my opportunity. For example, two students that I interviewed have morning classes all week and come to the library when those classes end (one being at 8:15 and the other being at 9:20). At the time that they come to the library they never have an issue finding seats because of how early in the day they come. From this I was able to conclude that class time plays a large role on who has the need for this opportunity. I also interviewed a couple of students who just choose to not come to the library regardless of time of day or year. They prefer to study at off campus study spots such as Starbucks or local coffee joints. This was something I hadn’t even thought of when creating my opportunity. I also found from a separate interviewee that outside involvement plays a lot on this need. For example, this student has a part time job and never finds herself on campus after classes, so after work she goes home to study and complete homework.

· WHAT:Even though an app would solve the issue of wasting time looking for seats it would not make the library less crowded, and I believe that would be something that I want to make sure students understand. The product would be used to SAVE time, not stop crowding all together.

· WHY:I don’t necessarily feel that the need is different. However, the use of the library by various students is different so not all students would download and use an app if they don’t come to the library or have to deal with the issue.

  1. It sounds like you found a good range of interviewees to help you narrow down your market boundaries. I wouldn't have thought how class time affects when students go to the library, and determines whether or not students experience difficulty finding a seat. I like how you have narrowed down your focus to a particular group and place - it is something that I am struggling to accomplish for my project!

  2. Hi Nicolette, great work on this assignment it was well organized and I had no issues interpreting your data. looking forward to see your elevator pitch on this topic. the only problem that I see with your plan is getting all students who use the library to use the app. there should be some type of tangible system in place on site for those students who do not choose to take advantage of this service. looking forward to more posts in the future.

  3. Hello Nicolette,
I think you did a great job of analyzing your idea to find people who fall in the category outside of the targeted individuals. Like Ryan mentioned, I had never even thought about the factor of class timings. Like you mentioned, a lot of people do not choose to use the library to study irrespective as they do not prefer it and I can relate it as I personally cannot study for long in a library.
